Sodium hypochlorite solution, also called hypolye or chlorine bleaching lye, is produced at Donau Chemie by reacting synthetically produced chlorine gas with pure sodium hydroxide solution. The clear solution with a characteristic chlorine odour has a strong oxidising effect and is used for bleaching and disinfecting.

Sodium hypochlorite solution is an essential component of disinfecting and bleaching household cleaners and is also used as a disinfectant in swimming pools or for drinking water treatment.
